HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA SERIES VOL. 6

YOU CAN'T HAVE A JULY 4TH CELEBRATION WITHOUT S'MORES!  THEY WERE PRACTICALLY INVENTED FOR THIS HOLIDAY.

I LIKE TO SERVE THEM.  I DON'T EVERY YEAR, BUT THIS YEAR, THEY WILL BE ON THE MENU AGAIN.  THEY MAKE A FUN PAST TIME ACTIVITY BETWEEN THE MEAL AND THE FIREWORKS.

OF COURSE YOU CAN JUST SET OUT SOME MARSHMALLOWS, HERSEY BARS AND GRAHAM CRAKERS, BUT WHAT WOULD BE THE FUN IN THAT WHEN YOU CAN MAKE A S'MORES BAR, S'MORES CHARCUTERIE TRAY (I KNOW, THEY ARE STRICTLY NOT CHARCUTERIE!) OR CUTE INDIVIDUAL SERVINGS.

SOME OF MY FAVORITE EXAMPLES ARE BELOW.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA SERIES VOL. 5

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED MAKING A SPECIAL BEVERAGE FOR YOUR PARTY?

SEVERAL YEARS AGO, I SERVED 'RED' AND 'BLUE' FLOATS.  SOME YEAR I WANT TO MAKE BOOZY MALTS.  MAKING A SPECIAL BEVERAGE TAKES THE PARTY TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF RECIPES ON PINTEREST, WHERE MOST OF MY INSPIRATION COMES FROM.  I ALSO USED TO BE A MAGAZINE HOUND AND HAVE LOTS OF SAVED IDEAS ON SCRAPS OF TORN OUT PAGES!

HERE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE IDEAS.

Susan Crabtree created these.  To make, start with a batch of homemade vanilla ice cream and divide into 3 equal parts.  Place 1/3 of the plain vanilla back in to the freezer. Mix up 1/3 of vanilla with red coloring and the remaining 1/3 with blue gel color in separate containers.  Fill your glasses 1/3 full of blue ice cream & place back in the freezer to set.  Follow with 1/3 white an 1/3 red, allowing each layer to set in between.

These shakes are called Freakshakes, they get their name from how outrageous you garnish your shake.  The crazier the better.  I wrote a blog about these several years ago.

Things you'll need for these blue ice cream floats pictured above:  Ginger ale (or your favorite clear soda); Vanilla ice Cream; Blue food dye; Whipped creat, red, white and blue Sprinkles and Maraschino cherries.  When I made mine, I used colored sodas. It was just easier

Or try an Italian Soda bar:
